Michael Greger, MD How Not to Die Book Review by Ndiritu Wahome

Despite there being a school of thought that does not advocate eating modern fruits like bananas, watermelon, pineapples and berries as they contain fructose, Doctor Ginger disagrees with this view. He categorically states that the fructose in these fruits does no harm to the body and cannot make the liver fatty. He cites, ‘there are a few popular diets out there that urge people to stop eating fruits because their natural sugars (fructose) are thought to contribute to weight gain. The truth is, only fructose from added sugars appears to be associated  with declining liver function, like  high blood pressure, and weight gain.’ He does, however, caution us to stay away from processed sugar, and fizzy drinks as the processed sugars in these products are detrimental to our liver and lead to lifestyle diseases like obesity and blood pressure.

How to Start Making Your First Writing Work by Ndiritu Wahome

For you to successfully complete your manuscript, it’s imperative for you to write every day. Select a time that best work for you, it could be early in the morning when you wake up – something that I personally do; I dedicate the first two hours in the morning to write – or late in the night. Ensure the time you select you are not disturbed; let these hours be your holy personal time to pen down your ideas. Even if you are not in the mood or have a writer’s’ block, try and force yourself to write something. Set a minimum word count per seating; it can be 500 words or a 1,000 words.

In her fascinating book, Dorothea Brande provides a faucet of wisdom on how to live a fulfilling and successful life with her mantra, ‘Act as if it were impossible to Fail.’ It is a remarkable, well researched book with an impeccable prose language that appeases the senses and offers solutions to everyday problems we encounter in our lives. She talks in detail of why we fail, among them the Will to Fail, and our adamant behaviour of spending quality time in reverie. She has highlighted the one spectre that revolutionized her life, and made her not only to be a best seller author, but a prolific one.

Esther Vilar’s, Manipulated Man Book Review by Ndiritu Wahome

If there is one book that has created controversy and altercation is Esther Vilar’s book, The Manipulated Man. She has highlighted some thought provoking ideas about the modern perception of man in the eyes of women, and the otherwise grim expectations of provision in return for her body. She says, “By the age of twelve at the latest, most women have decided to become prostitutes. Or, to put it another way, they have planned a future for themselves which consists of choosing a man and letting him do all the work. In return for his support, they are prepared to let him make use of their vagina at certain given moments.”
